Milwaukee Brewers ace Corbin Burnes was recently featured in an article by Ben Adler in which he discussed a few noticeable changes that have been fueling his success over the past six weeks. A few things mentioned were a more “sweeping” slider, increased vertical drop on the sinker, and an increase in the number of strikes thrown with the cutter.
This article caught the attention of one former big league player who is on one of baseball’s biggest podcasts and he elected to give Corbin Burnes high praise for making these adjustments.

Former big league player Trevor Plouffe gives Milwaukee Brewers ace Corbin Burnes high praise for making adjustments.
On Monday, August 14th Talkin Baseball came out with their 701st episode. Corbin Burnes had a portion of the show dedicated to him where Trevor Plouffe gave the former Cy Young award winner lots of credit for adapting and making adjustments.
“Typically those guys just keep doing what they’re doing, but how are you gonna hook a big fish like me? Because you are willing to make adjustments, even when you’ve had success, because you feel like ‘hey, I can be better, things can change for me.'”
“I love when guys are able to continue to get better or identify something that popped up and fix it. Especially at the big league level, especially like I just said you just won a Cy Young, ERA title, you have accolades but you are willing to get better. Those are the guys that stick around, those are the guys you want on your ball team.”
The video segment of Trevor Plouffe discussing Corbin Burnes is posted below.
