Major League Baseball announced on Monday morning the 20 nominees for the Hank Aaron Award.
Established in 1999 marking the 25th anniversary of Aaron breaking Babe Ruth’s all-time career home run record, this award honors the best offensive players in each respective league. The winners are then determined by a voting committee through the Baseball Hall of Fame, and the winner is typically announced during the World Series.
This year, the Milwaukee Brewers‘ very own William Contreras has earned the nomination in the National League.
Milwaukee Brewers’ William Contreras named for Hank Aaron Award
The last time a Milwaukee Brewer won the award was in both 2018 and 2019 when 2018 NL MVP Christian Yelich was selected. Prince Fielder is the only other Brewer to receive the award back in 2007.
William Contreras had a monster of a season, quickly climbing his way to the top as one of the best catchers in all of baseball. A three-way trade with the Atlanta Braves and Oakland Athletics in December of 2022 would bring the catcher to the 414. I think it’s safe to say that Milwaukee definitely won in that trade.
Contreras earned his second all-star appearance in 2024, and has been huge to offensive production for the Brewers. When he’s not behind the plate, the offensive machine would take the role of DH, hardly ever taking a day off.
He played in 155 of the 162 games this season with 679 plate appearances. He finished his season with 23 homers, and a slash line of .281/.365/.466 with an OPS of .831.
