The Milwaukee Brewers and Colorado Rockies will be starting a four game series on the first day of July and concluding on independence day. In this series the Brewers are projected to face a starting pitcher who could be a trade target for them.
Milwaukee Brewers trade target from the Colorado Rockies that has 1.5 years of team control remaining.
29 year old Cal Quantrill is putting together a very nice season and he could be a trade candidate as a result. Across 16 starts he has a 3.78 ERA, but he’s shown flashes of being dominant on the mound. During the month of May (five starts) he had a 1.71 ERA where he pitched a minimum six innings each game and his season ERA was as low as 3.30 at one point during the middle of June.
How much money will Cal Quantrill make in 2024 and 2025?
During the off-season the Rockies took a flier on right-handed starting pitcher Cal Quantrill as they acquired him via trade after the Cleveland Guardians designated him for assignment. In doing so they agreed to pay him $6.55 million in 202. Per MLB trade rumors his 2025 projected arbitration salary may be near $10 million. After the 2025 season he will become a free agent.
Are the Colorado Rockies open to trading Cal Quantrill?
As of June 23, per MLB Insider Jon Morosi, the Rockies had not discussed Cal Quantrill in trades. Colorado will not be contending for a playoff spot this year and with 1.5 years of team control remaining Cal Quantrill’s trade value is currently at its peak. They could always wait and potentially trade him before the 2025 trade deadline or look to offer him a contract extension and keep him in a Rockies uniform beyond 2025.
Cal Quantrill delivered another quality start (6 IP, 3 ER) at Coors Field last night. His ERA is 3.50. Quantrill is eligible for free agency after 2025; I’m told the Rockies haven’t discussed him in trades so far this season. @MLBNetwork

Prior to becoming a member of the Rockies Cal Quantrill was a key member of the Cleveland Guardians starting rotation during the 2021 and 2022 seasons as he posted ERA’s of 2.89 and 3.38. He originally was drafted eighth overall by the San Diego Padres in 2016, but was traded to Cleveland in 2020 as a player in the Mike Clevinger and Greg Allen deal.
It will be interesting to see if the Rockies elect to trade Cal Quantrill less than one season into his tenure with the ball club or not. The Brewers are projected to see him pitch against them on Thursday, July 4.
