The Milwaukee Brewers placed Christian Yelich on the injured list on July 24. From there he saw a spine specialist and made the decision to rest and rehab his back injury with the goal of returning this season. Surgery in the off-season is still a possibility, but for now his goal is to be able to return to playing baseball.
Pat Murphy listed September 1 as the date to know whether Christian Yelich is trending towards returning or not.
On 620 WTMJ Pat Murphy spoke on air about where Christian Yelich was in the recovery process. Murphy said, “We’re doing everything we can to get him back on the field. (Yelich) is doing everything in his power (to return). We’re going to know pretty soon if that’ll be possible. We’ll know before September 1st where he’s trending.”
Is Christian Yelich in danger of missing time with the Milwaukee Brewers next year if he is unable to return in 2024?
Whether Christian Yelich returns this season or not he did clear the air and say that future seasons are not in jeopardy due to his decision to rest and rehab. Even though off-season surgery is a possibility Yelich told MLB.com that “Next year’s not in jeopardy. My career is not in jeopardy”.
The Milwaukee Brewers are currently missing Christian Yelich’s bat in the lineup.
This year Christian Yelcih had been hitting third in the lineup and was thriving against both right-handed and left-handed pitchers. His departure has impacted the lineup greatly because he had been on pace for 20+ home runs, 80+ RBI’s, possibly 40 stolen bases, and was in contention for another batting title (.315 batting average). There is no knowing how productive he will be if he returns, but mentally it would be a big boost for the Brewers.
