Milwaukee Brewers star Christian Yelich has personally announced that he will undergo back surgery and will miss the remainder of the 2024 season. Dr. Brandon Rebholz will perform the surgery in Wisconsin and he is expected to be 100% ready for the start of the 2025 season.
Christian Yelich personally announced via a video that he will undergo season ending back surgery and the Milwaukee Brewers issued a written statement.
On social media Christian Yelich posted a video with the caption “an update I was hoping to avoid. Be back stronger”. Shortly afterwards the Milwaukee Brewers social media team released a written statement from Yelich regarding his decision to undergo surgery, reasoning, expectation for the 2025 season, and his belief in this year’s current team.

Christian Yelich ran out of options regarding his ongoing back issues.
Pain and discomfort in Christian Yelich’s low back has caused him to miss numerous games throughout the years. In 2024 he missed time early on in the season and a second flare up caused him to land on the injured list shortly after the All-Star break. His initial plan after meeting a specialist at that time was to rest and rehab with the intention of returning in 2024. Unfortunately Yelich has since come out and said, “I tried everything I could. I ran out of options and it came time to make a decision.”
