The Milwaukee Brewers recently traded two-time All-Star pitcher Freddy Peralta to the New York Mets for two prospects, infielder/outfielder Jett Williams and right-handed pitcher Brandon Sproat. Tobias Myers was also sent to New York in the trade.
Both Williams and Sproat are top-100 prospects in all Major League Baseball, and Sproat could join Milwaukee’s starting rotation as early as Opening Day. He already made his Major League debut with the Mets last season.
Of course, it came as no surprise that the Brewers traded Peralta, who is entering the final year of his contract in 2026. And while Milwaukee was by no means shopping him, they were listening to offers and finally got one that they liked.
Still, saying goodbye to yet another fan and clubhouse favorite was by no means easy.
Milwaukee Brewers DH Christian Yelich makes farewell post to Freddy Peralta

Peralta was originally acquired by Milwaukee in a 2015 trade that saw the Brewers trade Adam Lind to the Seattle Mariners. Peralta was just 19 years old at the time.
His Major League debut happened in 2018, the same year that saw Christian Yelich arrive in Milwaukee via trade as well. That year, of course, saw Yelich win the NL MVP Award and Peralta become one of the pitching prospects Brewers fans were most excited for following his first start that saw him strike out 13 batters.
It was that debut that Yelich hearkened back to in his first social media post since Peralta was traded to the Mets:

As one can see, Yelich dubs Peralta one of the best pitchers in franchise history, which, of course, he is. He ranks third all-time on the Brewers’ strikeouts list with 1,153, trailing only Yovani Gallardo and Ben Sheets. Peralta also is the franchise leader in strikeouts per nine innings.
There is no doubt that, when his career is over, Peralta will be inducted to Milwaukee’s Wall of Honor at the earliest possible chance.
