The Milwaukee Brewers are currently on top of the National League Central. 1.5 months into the 2023 season this division is currently being labeled a “weak” division based on how its respective teams have performed so far. Some news was announced within the division today as the rival Chicago Cubs decided to part ways with a former World Series Champion.
After 31 games played with the Cubs and 100 plate appearances, Chicago has designated first baseman Eric Hosmer for assignment. The former World Series Champion with the 2015 Kansas City Royals has played for three different teams since last July.

Milwaukee Brewers division foe in the Chicago Cubs have parted ways with Eric Hosmer.
Last trade deadline the San Diego Padres had a deal worked out that would have sent Eric Hosmer to the Washington Nationals. He elected to exercise his partial no-trade clause and temporarily threw a wrench in the Padres acquiring Juan Soto and Josh Bell. Eventually Hosmer was sent to the Boston Red Sox.
Upon seasons end the Red Sox elected to designated Eric Hosmer for assignment. He eventually was signed by Chicago and joined Cody Bellinger plus Trey Mancini as players signed by the Cubs who were looking to put previous struggles behind them.
Today Hosmer’s journey with the Cubs ended. He finished his Chicago tenure with a 69 OPS+ and a career high 25% strikeout rate. If he clears waivers he can elect free agency and sign with any major league team.
