The Milwaukee Brewers are not off to the start they envision prior to the 2025 MLB season. Unfortunately, as the year began, many knew they were facing an uphill battle due to the plethora of injuries suffered by their starting rotation of pitchers.
Brandon Woodruff, coming off of shoulder surgery that cost him his entire 2024 season, was not expected to be ready for the regular season due to his recovery. Despite this, the Brewers were confident that they had the starting pitching depth necessary while they waited for his return.
And they did. Until they didn’t.
The Milwaukee Brewers Pitching Staff Has Been Decimated by Injuries

Milwaukee went into Spring Training knowing that Freddy Peralta and Nestor Cortes would be their top two pitchers. However, they also banked on having Tobias Myers, Aaron Ashby, DL Hall, and Aaron Civale in the fold.
Three of them did not even make it to the regular season before suffering injuries, though. Hall suffered a lat strain and is currently on the 60-day injured list. Myers and Ashby suffered oblique strains and started the year on the 15-day injured list.
After making a disastrous start against the New York Yankees in Milwaukee’s third game of the season, Civale was placed on the on the 15-day injured list with a strained hamstring.
And in addition to these, Nick Mears got so sick during camp that he lost over nine pounds and could not start the year on the Opening Day roster.
Milwaukee Brewers Fans Are Grateful for Chad Patrick

After an embarrassing first four games that saw the Brewers outscored 47-15, including a three-game sweep at the hands of the New York Yankees, Milwaukee sent out Chad Patrick for his first Major League start. He had previously made his Big League debut in the New York series, but gave up two runs on two hits and a walk in the only inning he pitched.
He was much better starting against the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday.
Patrick, who was 14-1 with a 2.90 ERA for Triple-A Nashville last season, pitched 4.2 innings of shutout ball against the Royals, allowing three hits and three walks while striking out five.
And Brewers fans were thankful for his performance:

Player Of The Game: Chad Patrick
4.2 Innings Pitched and got 5 strikeouts in Tonight’s game. Great pitching performance from him! pic.twitter.com/i087Bzqb9n— Alexrocks (@Alexrocks4u) April 2, 2025
Because he did not complete five innings of work, Patrick did not get his first Major League win. However, the Brewers got their first win of the season and will look to build off of it in the series finale on Wednesday.
