The National Baseball Hall of Fame will announce its Class of 2025 on January 21, less than one month from now. Three former Milwaukee Brewers are up for induction this year, including two who are on the ballot for the first time. Former closer Francisco Rodriguez is on the ballot for the third year in a row while Curtis Granderson and CC Sabathia are there for the first time.
Rodriguez received just 7.8% of the vote last year.
While none of the three players spent the majority of their careers in Milwaukee (indeed, two of them were with the Brewers for half a season), all of them played roles on some of the most exciting teams in franchise history.
Former Milwaukee Brewers Ace CC Sabathia Has Revealed What Team He Wants to Represent in the Hall of Fame
The first player of the three mentioned above to don a Brewers uniform was left-handed starting pitcher CC Sabathia, who was acquired by Milwaukee in a midseason trade with the Cleveland Indians back in 2008.
Sabathia had a dominant few months with the Brewers, going 11-2 with a 1.65 ERA and 1.00 WHIP in 17 starts. He threw seven complete games, three shutouts, and actually finished fifth in NL Cy Young voting despite not playing in the National League for a full season.
His heroics that year also helped Milwaukee clinch their first postseason appearance in 26 years.
In a recent interview with the New York Daily News, Sabathia was asked if he wanted his Hall of Fame plaque to have a New York Yankees cap on it.
“Absolutely,” he said.
The former AL Cy Young Award winner, who won a World Series and spent 11 seasons with the Yankees after leaving Milwaukee, appears confident that he will get inducted into the Hall of Fame, if not this year, eventually.
And he has chosen to represent New York as opposed to Cleveland, the team he spent the first seven and a half years of his career with.
Sabathia ended his 19-year career with a record of 251-161, a 3.74 ERA, and 3,093 strikeouts.
Curtis Granderson and Francisco Rodriguez Are Other Former Milwaukee Brewers on the Hall of Fame Ballot
Rodriguez spent four and a half of his 16 MLB seasons with the Brewers, with seven years spent with the Los Angeles Angels, two with the New York Mets, half a year with the Baltimore Orioles, and two with the Detroit Tigers.
His time with the Brewers was broken up into two stints, with him playing in Milwaukee from midseason 2011 to midseason 2013 and again from 2014-2015. His addition via trade in 2011 helped propel the Brewers to the National League Championship Series that year.
During his time with the Brewers, Rodriguez had a 13-16 record, 2.91 ERA, and 95 saves. He made two All-Star teams during his second stint with Milwaukee as well.
Known as K-Rod, the former Brewers reliever holds the single-season record for saves with 62, which he set with the Angels in 2008. His 437 career saves rank sixth all-time.
Curtis Granderson was acquired by the Brewers via trade in 2018, another season in which Milwaukee advanced to the NLCS. He only played in 19 games for the Brewers, hitting .220/.407/.439 with two home runs and three RBI.
In 16 MLB seasons, Granderson was a three-time All-Star and one-time Silver Slugger winner. He hit .249/.337/.465 with 1,800 hits, 1,217 runs, 337 home runs, and 937 RBI.
