The Milwaukee Brewers will select 17th overall in the 2024 MLB Draft. We are about a month away from the event and already we have had mocks indicating that the Crew could take college infielder Seaver Kingv or college outfielder Vance Honeycutt. Most recently MLB Pipeline proposed that Milwaukee could take a very talented two-way player.
Oklahoma State two-way player Carson Benge could be a target for the Milwaukee Brewers in this year’s draft.

Before the 2024 baseball season began a way to early MLB mock draft had the Brewers taking Carson Benge. Six months after that publication he again is in position to be selected 17th overall. The Oklahoma State two-way player is slashing .335/.444/.665 through 61 games and has 18 home runs, 24 doubles, and 64 RBI. On the mound he has tossed 37 innings in relief and has a 3.16 ERA.
What are Carson Benge’s best tools?

Per MLB Pipeline Carson Benge has a 60 grade throwing arm as an outfielder and 55 hit, power, speed, and field tools. This makes him a well balanced right fielder who hits from the left hand side of the plate and also swiped 10 bases this year. As a pitcher his fastball can hit 96 MPH, his slider is his second best pitch, and he also has a change up that is still a work in progress.
Is there anything to be worried about if the Milwaukee Brewers draft Carson Benge?

Two-way players in Major League Baseball are a rarity, so it’s important to know that per MLB Pipeline Carson Benge prefers hitting over pitching. He also has a history of Tommy John surgery that was performed in 2022. Additionally his 55 grade speed comes with the caveat that it takes his 6’1″ frame a bit to get going.
The 2024 MLB Draft starts on July 14, 2024. It will be interesting to see if Carson Benge is still available at 17 or not. MLB.com has him ranked as the 19th best prospect in this year’s draft class.
