Milwaukee Brewers batterymates Carlos Rodriguez and Gary Sanchez have made MLB history. Their record was not a performance accomplishment, but rather it is numerical in nature. Baseball References’ social media page was the first to point this out.
Against the Los Angeles Angels Carlos Rodriguez and Gary Sanchez made MLB history for numerary reasons.

Per Baseball Reference Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Carlos Rodriguez and catcher Gary Sanchez are the first battery to wear the numbers #00 and #99.
Baseball history has been made.

Why did Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Carlos Rodriguez choose to wear #00?

With a plethora of Brewers players on the injured list there unfortunately was not many numbers for Carlos Rodriguez to choose from when he made his MLB debut. Rather than choose a number north of 60 he elected to go with #00 because it looked cool.
“I was like, ‘I’ll take it (#00).’ I was just excited to be here..that was not on [my] mind. I was just focused on pitching.”
Carlos Rodriguez told MLB.com when asked about wearing #00.
Only two other Milwaukee Brewers players have worn #00 in franchise history.

Outside of Carlos Rodriguez only two other Brewers players have worn #00 in franchise history. Curtis Leskanic last wore that number from 2000-2001 and Jeffrey Leonard was the first to wear it during the 1988 season.
