Later this month, on Friday July 25, the Milwaukee Brewers will celebrate 25 seasons of playing at American Family Field, formerly Miller Park, by putting on an alumni home run derby following their game against the Miami Marlins.

Several former fan-favorites, who are still beloved by the Milwaukee faithful, have been invited to take part in the event. Prince Fielder, Ryan Braun, Eric Thames, and even former pitcher Yovanni Gallardo will, once again, pick up their bats in an attempt to give Brewers a powerful show.

Another former Milwaukee star that will be taking part in the event is two-time All-Star and one-time Gold Glove winner Carlos Gomez, who joined the Brewers in Miami on the 4th of July to take batting practice and talk to reporters ahead of the home run derby in three weeks.

Former Milwaukee Brewers Star Carlos Gomez Still Loves the Organization

Before the game against the Marlins on July 4, Gomez met with reporters to talk about the upcoming home run derby and how much he loves the Brewers organization.

“I mean, it’s not like serious,” Gomez said of the home run competition. “It’s more like the adrenaline to step on Miller Park again with my ex-teammates for this organization. There’s a lot of good [memories] come to mind.”

Gomez has previously said that he loves returning to Milwaukee where fans still recognize him and thank him for the fun memories he provided for them during his career.

Later in the interview, when asked if he still considered himself a Brewer despite playing just six of his 13 Major League seasons in Milwaukee, Gomez said, “I’m a Brewer forever.”

The interview also revealed that Gomez has stayed in shape during his retirement by taking up cycling. He told reporters that just that morning he did a 40-mile run. However, he is getting back into swinging shape now following a torn labrum, which he suffered in a biking accident eight months ago.

He also told the reporters (and fans) not to sleep on Gallardo in the home run derby has his former teammate used to put on some shows during batting practice back in his playing career.
