One moment that Milwaukee Brewers fans will never forget is Brandon Woodruff’s 2018 NLCS post season home run off Los Angeles Dodgers future hall of fame pitcher Clayton Kershaw. Woodruff, a left-handed hitter, delivered a solo shot in the bottom of the third inning to tie the game. This resulted in pandemonium about the stadium and entire state of Wisconsin.
An interesting development in the story about this home run has been revealed by Brandon Woodruff himself. He recently appeared on an episode of Foul Territory and shared how the bat has since gone missing.
Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Brandon Woodruff shares a story of the missing post season home run bat.
In the episode Brandon Woodruff points out that the bat he used to hit the home run off Clayton Kershaw was an Eric Sogard bat. Following the conclusion of the series Woodruff’s dad, who never asks for anything, inquired about having the bat.
Woodruff of course said he would track it down, so he called Brewers equipment manager Jason Shawger. Shawger informed him that the bats had been packed up and sent to Arizona for spring training. On the first day of camp Woodruff went looking for the bat and could not find it, so the next logical conclusion was that maybe it was still in Milwaukee.
Upon the conclusion of spring training Woodruff went searching for the bat in Milwaukee. When the bat again did not turn up panic started to set in. Turns out that an assistant took all the bats of players who weren’t on the team and shipped them to the minor leagues. Long story short the Brandon Woodruff bat (an Eric Sogard bat) got sent to the minor leagues and likely broke.
