Milwaukee Brewers pitchers Brandon Woodruff and DL Hall are two pitchers whose spring training has been impacted by recovery from surgery/injury. After not pitching last year, Woodruff is progressing back from 2023 shoulder surgery whereas Hall sustained an off-season LAT injury.
Brandon Woodruff is expected to progress to multiple innings

While Woodruff is yet to appear in a spring training game, he has been throwing live batting practice. The reported velocity on his fastball is currently 92-93 MPH, but his ramp up progression is reportedly going well enough that the next test will be simulating multiple innings. Adam McCalvy of MLB.com was the first to report this news.
DL Hall is still shut down from throwing

When the Brewers first announced the injury news on Hall, which was February 12, they said that he would be shut down for several more weeks. That has held true as two weeks later he is still not playing catch. However, he hopes to be cleared for that during the first week of March.
Both Woodruff and Hall may not be ready by Opening Day

With Woodruff and Hall both being starting pitchers, it’s possible that neither is ramped up fully enough to be ready by Opening Day. Starts on the injured list with rehab assignments are possible, but with a month to go before the regular season starts it’s too early to tell.
Milwaukee plays 10 games in 11 days to begin the 2025 campaign, so navigating the early portion of the season with a four man rotation is not a realistic option and others may have to step up.
