The Milwaukee Brewers have a great deal of prospects that are worthy of fans’ excitement. Most notable among these is Jackson Chourio, who will soon be the top prospect in all of baseball. Due to Chourio’s talent and the overall acknowledgement of his potential, it may be surprising to some that he was not selected as the team’s best pure hitting prospect. A team of writers from mlb.com published an article identifying the best pure hitting prospect for each of MLB’s 30 teams. The Brewers best pure hitter? Sal Frelick.
What Was Said about Milwaukee Brewers Prospect Sal Frelick
In the article, the following was written about Frelick:
“The game is supposed to get harder the higher you climb. It didn’t appear that way for the 2021 15th overall pick in his first full season. Frelick climbed three levels from High-A to Triple-A, increasing his average and cutting his strikeout rate at every stop to the point where he batted .365 while punching out only 7.4 percent of the time over 46 games with Nashville. Frelick’s plate discipline and short left-handed swing help him work counts and protect the plate, and his plus-plus speed can help him pick up additional knocks on grounders.”
It’s not hard to see why Frelick was chosen as the Brewers’ best pure hitting prospect. As mentioned above, he played in three levels of minor league baseball last year and seemingly got better as he advanced through the system.
- High-A: .291/.391/.465
- Double-A: .317/.380/.464
- Triple-A: .365/.435/.508
Also at Triple-A Nashville, Frelick walked (19 times) more than he struck out (16 times).
Overall, Frelick hit .331/.403/.480 with 11 home runs and 59 RBI in 2022. He also stole 24 bases and scored 90 runs. He also had far more hits (163) than he had games played (119).
It is most likely that Frelick will begin 2023 in Triple-A Nashville. However, he is also likely to make his Major League debut this year as well.
