Milwaukee Brewers fans all have similar reactions to former 29-home run hitting outfielder retiring

The Milwaukee Brewers have emerged as one of the most consistent teams, year in and year out, in all Major League Baseball. They have achieved this by relying on their own developed players who have formed the foundation of a team that has won its division three years in a row and set the franchise records in wins last season.

Indeed, this is the kind of team the Brewers promised to fans not too long ago, asking only for patience while they developed current stars like Brice Turang, Sal Frelick, and Jackson Chourio.

But while these stars were developing, Milwaukee frequently gambled on aging stars to act as a bridge until their young talent was Major League ready. One of the outfielders who spent some time with the Brewers was Avisail Garcia, who had one of the best years of his career while playing for Milwaukee.

Former Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Avisail Garcia has retired from Major League Baseball

Garcia signed with the Brewers ahead of the 2020 MLB season. Of course, that year was cut short to 60 games due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In 2021, the only year in which he spent a full 162-game season in Milwaukee, Garcia hit .262/.330/.469 with 29 home runs and 86 RBI.

Garcia signed with the Miami Marlins, with whom he played three seasons, but appeared in just 153 games during that time and hit .217/.260/.322 in that time with a total of 13 home runs and 49 RBI.

Many fans in Milwaukee were surprised that the Brewers showed interest in Garcia at all in 2020, given his, well, complicated history with franchise legend Prince Fielder. These fans again pointed to that history when they learned Garcia had announced his retirement:

Wonder where his career would have been if he didn’t sleep with prince’s wife and get shipped out of Detroit.

Early in Garcia’s career, he allegedly got into a fight with former Brewers first baseman Prince Fielder while the two were teammates on the Detroit Tigers. The fight, according to rumors, was because Garcia had an affair with Fielder’s wife.

While no one officially has confirmed these rumors, it is worth noting that both players were traded away from Detroit shortly after the alleged incident.
