The Milwaukee Brewers over the years had to deal with the incompetence of Angel Hernandez behind the plate. On Monday night, the baseball world rejoiced as Hernandez announced his retirement, as USA Today Sports Bob Nightengale reported.
Angel Hernandez told the U.S.A. Today about his retirement:
“Starting with my first major league game in 1991, I have had the very good experience of living out my childhood dream of umpiring in the major leagues. I treasured the camaraderie of my colleagues and the friendships I have made along the way. I have decided that I want to spend more time with my family.”
He is 62 years old and his last game behind home plate was on Thursday, May 9, when the Chicago White Sox defeated the Cleveland Guardians 3-2. That game was played at Guaranteed Rate Field in Chicago, Illinois.
A lot of baseball fans have been calling for robot umpires because of how bad Hernandez and other umpires have been behind home plate.
Milwaukee Brewers Fans Respond To Angel Hernandez Retiring
There was not one sad person on social media on Monday night when this news happened. Milwaukee Brewers fans and other MLB fans had some very interesting things to say about him retiring officially from the sport of baseball:
Angel Hernandez was probably the worst umpire of all time. But without him, we wouldn’t have this hilarious moment, and for that I will be forever grateful.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you Ángel Hernández.
You gave me more content than I could have possibly dreamed of.
I didn’t deserve you.
Enjoy your retirement, king. https://t.co/R2pbiNtl4L pic.twitter.com/0MECwqfIZ2

There was a lot of sarcasm as well in these Twitter posts. It was always an interesting moment in baseball when Hernandez would be trending on Twitter for all of the bad calls he made. Players and managers would argue with his calls often and who can blame those players honestly for his horrendous calls behind home plate?
Brewers fans and other MLB fans will have to find another umpire to complain about for the rest of the 2024 season and for years to come.
