Milwaukee Brewers sign former Detroit Tigers outfielder to 40-man roster

When the Major League Baseball offseason began, most of the talk surrounding the Milwaukee Brewers was in regard to the players that they may or may not trade. Of course, ace/two-time All-Star Freddy Peralta, who led the National League with 17 wins in 2024, has been a hot name in trade rumors, though the Brewers are also keen on keeping him.

Another name that has come up in trade rumors recently is that of All-Star closer Trevor Megill. Unlike Peralta, who is entering the final season of his contract, Megill is under club control for two more years and could fetch a haul should Milwaukee be willing to move him.

This all being said, not many reports or rumors linked the Brewers to any free agents. Indeed, the small market franchise has not spent much in free agency in the past, and they likely will not change that. However, they did make a move today to add some depth to their outfield.

Aside from pitchers, one position that the Brewers have had a great deal success in developing is the outfield. Jackson Chourio and Sal Frelick will be mainstays in the lineup for years to come, and Milwaukee also boasts competent players like Isaac Collins, Garrett Mitchell, and Blake Perkins there.

But, as the Brewers have learned, they can never have too much depth in the outfield. Injuries happen, players need days off, and they need to have quality reserves ready to step in.

Because of this, they signed former Detroit Tigers outfielder Akil Baddoo to a one-year contract:

Baddoo has appeared in parts of five Major League seasons for the Tigers and has a career batting line of .224/.305/.369. He also has 28 career home runs and 43 career stolen bases.

His best season was his rookie year in 2021 when he appeared in 124 games and hit .259/.330/.436 with 13 home runs, 55 RBI, and 18 stolen bases.

Baddoo spent most of 2025 with Triple-A Toledo, and hit .281/.385/.483 with 15 home runs, 48 RBI, and 25 stolen bases.
