Back in July of 2022, the Milwaukee Brewers made a long term investment in a pitcher by signing him to a contract that guaranteed him $20.5 million, but with the ability to earn much more. Issues with injury, performance, and velocity have put a dark cloud over this signing, but now he is back on the Brewers 2025 MLB roster and ready to impact the big league club.
Milwaukee Brewers $20.5 million investment returns to MLB

On Friday, the Brewers activated southpaw Aaron Ashby off the injured list. The 27 year old injured his oblique during spring training. Ashby made five rehab appearances, with the last four coming in Triple-A. With the Nashville Sounds he tossed six innings, gave up three hits, walked five, struck out four, and allowed one earned runs.

Aaron Ashby needs to build on the momentum he gained at the end of last season

In 2024, Ashby spent much of the season in the minor leagues as he worked his way back from shoulder surgery. It was his first full year post-recovery, and it wasn’t until late in the season, and a move to the bullpen, that he began to show consistent results and regained his velocity, once again touching the upper 90s.
After a pair of brief MLB stints early during the 2024 season, Ashby was again called up in late August, where that time he ended up staying on the active roster throughout the playoffs. He finished the year with a 1.37 ERA over his last 19.2 innings pitched that included 28 strikeouts to just three walks and three holds.
Now healthy and with a strong finish to build on, Ashby enters 2025 with a real opportunity to reestablish himself as a key piece of the Brewers’ pitching staff. His 2024 late-season surge showed flashes of the dominant form Milwaukee once envisioned, and if he can carry that momentum forward, Ashby could play a pivotal role in the team’s success this year.
