The Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Seattle Mariners 5-3 on Wednesday afternoon, completing the three-game sweep. Now the Brewers can return home after going 7-3 on their 10-game West Coast trip. The win on Wednesday did not seem likely at first, but late-game clutch hitting and a stellar performance from Eric Lauer propelled the Brewers to victory. Rowdy Tellez’s two-out two-RBI pinch hit single that capped off a five-run seventh inning made the difference. That was not the only positive that went the Brewers’ way either.
#1. Eric Lauer Has the 2nd Longest Outing by a Milwaukee Brewers Pitcher This Season
The longest outing by a Brewers starter this season was Corbin Burnes’ eight shutout innings against the Arizona Diamondbacks on April 11. Eric Lauer came close to matching his innings pitched, going 7.2 innings against the Seattle Mariners on Wednesday. The veteran lefty allowed two runs on four hits and a walk while striking out four.
Like Burnes, Lauer got off to a slow start to the season. Also like Burnes, Lauer’s last two starts have been quality. He is now 3-1 on the season, leading Brewers’ starters in wins.
#2. Joey Wiemer
Joey Wiemer had been mired in a bad slump at the plate. With Garrett Mitchell going on the 10-day IL, it was important that Wiemer snap out of the funk he was in. Starting in center field, Wiemer went 2-2 with a double. Hopefully this performance gives him something to build upon and he will be a more consistent hitter going forward.
#3. Brice Turang
Speaking of players in slumps, Brice Turang has cooled down considerably following his hot start. Like Wiemer, however, his defense has been nothing short of spectacular, as can be seen by this play he made to end the seventh inning:

Turang came through with his bat, too, against the Seattle Mariners. He was 1-4 with a two-out two-RBI single that gave the Brewers a 3-2 lead. He came around to score on Tellez’s two-out two-RBI single later in the inning.
