Brewers’ fans may have been disappointed with no post-season appearance last season, but the Brewers did win (or better stated, share) a title in 2022. With a 15-5 record in inter-league play in 2022, the Brew Crew tied the Los Angeles Dodgers for the best inter-league record in the majors last season.
A 15-5 record (.750 winning percentage) was the best inter-league record for the Brewers since inter-league play started in 1997. The 15 inter-league wins was also a team-high against American League opponents.
The Brewers last season had six series against American League teams and won every series. The six 2022 inter-league series for the Brewers:
Brewers won all six series vs. A.L. teams in 2022
Baltimore (2 wins, one loss)
Boston (2 wins, one loss)
Minnesota (3 wins, one loss)
New York Yankees (2 wins, one loss)
Tampa Bay (4 wins, no losses)
Toronto (2 wins, one loss)
In the 26 seasons (since 1997) of inter-league play, the Brewers in 13 of those seasons finished at .500 or better in those inter-league games. Their worst year for inter-league play was in 2002 when they finished 2-10 (.167) in games against the A.L.
If we look at all inter-league games since the start of inter-league play, the Brewers are 21st in the standings with a 206-223 (.480) record in those contests. The all-time best inter-league record from 1997-2022 is the Boston Red Sox at .596 followed by the Yankees (.583) and the Angels at .539. The three worst inter-league teams since 1997 are Cincinnati (.432), Philadelphia (.441) and San Diego (.445).
Although the Brewers are 21st on the inter-league all-time record list, the team has certainly made a better showing in games against the other league since 2016, the year Craig Counsell took over as manager. Since 2016, the Brewers are tied with the Cubs for the sixth best inter-league winning percentage at .543 (76-64 record).
