The Milwaukee Brewers are tied for the best record in the National League (10-4) after an 11-2 blowout of the San Diego Padres. It took extra innings for the Brewers to win Game One of the four-game series, but no extra baseball was needed on Friday night. Every Brewers player that stepped up to the plate had at least one hit, except one (Joey Wiemer). Five hitters had two hits and one (Luke Voit) had three. With such a big offensive barrage, there were so many things to choose from when it came to focusing on the positives, so I selected three and turned the rest into fun facts.
1. Milwaukee Brewers First Baseman Rowdy Tellez Is LOCKED IN

After getting off to a slow start to the season, Brewers first baseman Rowdy Tellez is starting to heat up. After hitting a two-run home run on Thursday night, Tellez had a solo home run and a three-run home run against Padres pitching on Friday. The two-home run performance gives him four in his last four games and five on the season, good for the second-highest total in Major League Baseball so far this season.
2. Christian Yelich Gets on Base for the Milwaukee Brewers

Is Christian Yelich back to his 2018-2019 form? No, and he might never be. But that does not mean he has not been a huge asset for this Brewers’ team so far this season. After two hits, including a solo home run, against the Padres on Friday night, there remains just one game this season in which Yelich has not reached base at least once. His consistency in getting on base has led to good things. His 13 runs scored this season is the second-highest total in all of MLB (Willy Adames is tied for third with 12 runs, by the way).
Listen, you can focus on the strikeout numbers and how low the power numbers are for Yelich if you enjoy torturing yourself. Or, you can accept the fact that this is the player he is. The point of baseball is to score more runs than your opponent and, so far, very few players are scoring more than him.
3. Eric Lauer’s First Quality Start of 2023 for the Milwaukee Brewers

Like ace Corbin Burnes, Eric Lauer struggled in his first two starts of the 2023 season. Also like Burnes, however, Lauer turned his third start into the best of his season. Facing his former team in San Diego for the first time since being traded to the Brewers, Lauer pitched six innings, gave up five hits and two walks, allowed just one run, and struck out five. As a result, his ERA on the young season dropped from 7.71 to 5.28.
Fun Facts
- Bryse Wilson picked up his second save of the season; he pitched the final three innings for the Brewers. It is the second time this season Wilson has picked up a three-inning save. His two saves also lead the club.
- The Brewers have a +34 run differential, which is the best in the National League. Only the Tampa Bay Rays have a better run differential in all MLB.
- William Contreras went 1-3, extending his hitting streak to 11 games.
- The Brewers have a 2.76 team ERA so far this season. Only the Rays and Minnesota Twins have a better ERA in all of baseball. The closest NL team to the Brewers in terms of ERA is the Braves, who have an ERA of 3.79.
