The Milwaukee Brewers, against all logic, are 40-29 and five-and-a-half games ahead of the St. Louis Cardinals for first place in the National League Central Division. The Cincinnati Reds are six games back; the Pittsburgh Pirates are seven games back; and the Craig Counsell-led Chicago Cubs are seven-and-a-half games back.
As fans are well aware, the Brewers have been able to maintain their lead in the division despite an absolutely insane amount of injuries to their pitching staff. Even before the season began, Brandon Woodruff was ruled out for the year and All-Star closer Devin Williams was placed on the 60-day IL with two stress fractures in his back.
Since the season began, a whole starting rotation’s worth of pitchers have also been added to IL: Robert Gasser, Wade Miley, Joe Ross, DL Hall, and Jakob Junis. Of these players, both Gasser and Miley are out for the season.
And now it is being reported that one of their aspiring relief pitchers may be out for an extended period of time as well.
Milwaukee Brewers Reliever Abner Uribe Needs Knee Surgery

According to Adam McCalvy, who covers the Brewers for MLB.com, fireball right-hander Abner Uribe is going to need surgery on his knee. Per McCalvy, Uribe has a torn meniscus in his right knee. He had surgery for a torn meniscus in his left knee in 2022.
According to McCalvy, Brewers’ general manager Matt Arnold said, “It’s one of those where once they get in there they can determine [the extent of the surgical repair]. It could just be a light cleanup.”
Arnold also indicated that there is a chance that Uribe pitches in Milwaukee again this season.
Once he does come back to the Big League roster, though, Uribe will need to serve a four-game suspension for his role in a brawl between the Brewers and Tampa Bay Rays.
Milwaukee Brewers Relief Pitcher Abner Uribe Has Struggled This Season

In 14 appearances for the Brewers this season, Uribe is 2-2 with a 6.91 ERA and 1.89 WHIP. He also has three saves.
It is worth noting, though, that nearly half of the 11 runs he has given up this season came in one game, and 15-5 blowout loss to the New York Yankees. In that game, Uribe pitched two-thirds of an inning, gave up two hits, three walks, and five runs.
Prior to that outing, his ERA was a respectable 3.65.
Uribe has not pitched in Milwaukee since May 1. He has, however, pitched well down in Triple-A Nashville where he has a 1.04 ERA in seven appearances.
