Former Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy seems to now be sitting on a much cooler seat.
McCarthy has consistently been viewed as a coach on the verge of getting fired by the Dallas Cowboys, but the NFC East team’s compelling 26-24 win on Sunday night in Arlington over Baker Mayfield and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers appears to have helped his job security.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones was even seen looking ecstatic in the locker room as he met with McCarthy following the win.

Former Green Bay Packers HC Mike McCarthy shares moment with Jerry Jones after Buccaneers-Cowboys
Of course, fans online have lots of reactions to that interaction between the two. Here are some of the comments:
“Crazy how excited they are to finish 3rd in the division”
“Sign Mike to another 3 years now. Then give butter the bag first then Parsons”
“Mike gets resigned, zimm gets resigned, draft receiver in the first round or sign Amari cooper/ steffon diggs, sign rico to a 3 year deal and draft a change of pace back, stay healthy and we good to go.”
“McCarthy 2025 is happening, isn’t it?”
“Winning cures everything”
“Good for Mike man. He’s a solid coach.”
Jones also gave McCarthy his flowers when the Cowboys owner spoke with reporters.
“I’m just proud that they got rewarded and our team is playing at that level because he’s got them coached up to playing at that level even though you realize when you’re not in those playoffs you can’t get to the big one,” Jones said (via Jon Machota of The Athletic). “He’s got this team–-that’s as good of an emotional performance, effort performance that I’ve seen us have. I don’t know what to compare it to.”
The Cowboys are out of playoff contention but the fight they showed against the Buccaneers had moral victory written all over it. The 7-8 Cowboys will next take on the Philadelphia Eagles on the road in Week 17 before concluding their 2024 campaign with a home game versus the Washington Commanders in Week 18.
