Micah Parsons to Packers Blockbuster Trade More Likely Than Ever

Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst didn’t dispel the notion Green Bay could pull off a blockbuster trade for All-Pro edge rusher Micah Parsons, and it sure sounds like the Dallas Cowboys are more amenable than ever to pulling off a trade.

Parsons and Cowboys owner Jerry Jones have been embroiled in bitter contract negotiations throughout the offseason, that seem to have reached a standstill in recent weeks.

Now, according to a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Cowboys are open to the idea of listening to trade offers and perhaps moving off Parsons amid his dramatic hold-in throughout training camp and the preseason.

“Several teams have spoken to the Dallas Cowboys about a potential Micah Parsons trade,” Schefter, Todd Archer, and Graziano report for ESPN. “And for the first time the Cowboys appear willing to at least listen, according to multiple sources.

“No trade is imminent, but another team always could be aggressive enough to make it come together quickly, per sources.”

Even though no trade is imminent, this is a significant step backwards in the negotiations between Parsons and the Cowboys. After all, to this point, Jones has consistently reaffirmed the Cowboys’ desire to keep Parsons.

If Parsons becomes available, the Packers are uniquely positioned with the kind of talent at wide receiver, future draft capital, and being a team on the cusp of competing that make Green Bay an ideal destination and trade partner for the Cowboys.

Whether the Cowboys ultimately wind up making a trade, or if this is just posturing of some kind, the combination of where these negotiations stand and Gutekunst’s openness to making a trade make this a situation to monitor for Green Bay, ahead of a season with Super Bowl aspirations that would be dramatically bolstered by adding a player like Parsons along the front seven.
