Micah Parsons, Jayden Daniels trade bold words before Packers-Commanders showdown

Jayden Daniels and the Washington Commanders look to stack a second straight win as they head to Lambeau Field for a primetime clash with the Green Bay Packers. When asked about the prospect of facing the newly minted Packers defensive end Micah Parsons, the 24-year-old quarterback brushed off the concern with an easygoing reply.

“He got paid a lot of money,” Daniels told the media. “So I would think so. For a reason. So for sure, you don’t let game wreckers wreck the game. You’ve got to keep an eye on him. He got paid a lot of money for a reason. He’s a very good player.”

Meanwhile, Parsons, fresh off a four-year, $188 million contract with the Packers, said he isn’t overly worried about containing Daniels, even with the quarterback’s dangerous dual-threat style.

“I guess that just depends on what type of players you’ve got. You’ve got horse engines now. I don’t see nobody outrunning me from the edge and stuff, and I’ve played him a bunch. He knows it’s different. It’s different. He’s used to them 6-5, 260 D-ends. This thing is 245, 250. That engine is a little bit different than them 280s,” Parsons said in a separate interview.

“For me, I don’t think it’s just pick and choose. I’ve just got to make sure I get vertical if I’m going to take the inside move, and make sure he doesn’t outrun around me to our pinpoint,” he continued.

The Packers could soon be reminded of how much Parsons changes their defense when they host the Commanders on Sept. 11. If Parsons pressures Daniels in the pocket, it will mark a sharp contrast from how Green Bay handled explosive quarterbacks last year.

Parsons notched a sack in his highly anticipated Green Bay debut after arriving from the Dallas Cowboys following their messy contract dispute. The Packers opened the season on a strong note as well, taking down the Detroit Lions 27-13 in Week 1.

Daniels plays with an explosive style, always looking to deliver through the air before relying on his legs as a backup option. He constantly shifts to create space, scanning for deep targets and hunting for big plays downfield. The Packers must respect his passing ability as much as his running threat. Parsons gives them an answer for both, using his 4.3 speed in the 40 to keep pace with Daniels while also creating favorable matchups that open opportunities for his teammates.

The Packers host the Washington Commanders at Lambeau Field on Thursday night for their Week 2 clash.
