The Mets made a big splash in free agency this morning. They signed 3-time Cy Young winner Justin Verlander to a 2-year $86 million deal. Verlander is fresh off helping the Astros win a World Series and many wondered where he would go next including how much he would get. The Mets’ singing of Verlander has quieted the Brewers’ trade rumors for now.

Signing Of Justin Verlander Quiets Brewers Trade Rumors
The Brewers have already traded Hunter Renfroe and Kolton Wong this offseason. Many wondered whether the Brewers would enter a full rebuild and trade more players. With the Mets needing pitching, many wondered whether Corbin Burnes or Brandon Woodruff could be on the move as well. The Brewers are insistent that they are not trading those players but that has not stopped teams from calling. The Mets signing Verlander should quiet some rumors at least for one team.
What Should The Brewers Do?
The Brewers are in an odd position right now. They have already started trading some players away but seem hesitant to start a complete rebuild. They want to try and stay competitive in the NL Central. The Brewers will most likely go into the season and see how it goes. If things go well, they can keep their players and look to add pieces here and there. If the season goes south at the beginning, the Brewers could blow it up and find teams desperate for pitching.
The Verlander signing should help quiet the Brewers trade rumors for now. If the Brewers stumble at all at the beginning of the season, expect the rumors to ramp back up.
