The Green Bay Packers won a thriller on Sunday vs. the Miami Dolphins.  The Packers edged out the Dolphins 26-20 to keep their playoff hopes alive and improve to 7-8 on the season.  The same weekend saw former Packers’ Offensive Coordinator Nathaniel Hackett fired from his head coaching position in Denver.  Today Matt LaFleur was asked about the Nathaniel Hackett firing and if he would bring him back this year.

Matt LaFleur Asked If He Would Bring Back Nathaniel Hackett This Year

Per Tom Silverstein, during today’s press conference, LaFleur was asked if he would consider bringing the  back to Green Bay this year.

LaFleur called the Nathaniel Hackett firing “an ugly part of the business.” Said he’s always here for him if he needs him. “I just feel for him.” Did not answer whether he might consider bringing him in for the rest of the season. Said he has not talked to Hackett yet.

In January, Denver hired Hackett, 42, as their 18th head coach.  This came subsequently after serving three seasons as the Green Bay Packers offensive coordinator under Matt LaFleur. At the time, George Paton (Broncos GM) called Hackett a “dynamic leader and coach whose intelligence, innovation, and charisma impressed us from the very start of the process.” The Nathaniel Hackett firing comes after a 4-11 start for the Broncos and a 51-14 loss Sunday to the Rams.

During those three seasons in Green Bay, the Packers’ offense had a lot of success.  Green Bay won 13 games each season he was in Green Bay.  2019: 13-3, 2020: 13-3, and 202: 13-4.  The Packers will face the Vikings on Sunday at Lambeau Field.  It will be a must-win if Green Bay wants to consequently continue its improbable playoff push.  Green Bay will need one loss from the Commanders in their final two games.  All of a sudden Green Bay has found itself in a position to fight for a playoff push.  While we are unsure what the Nathaniel Hackett firing will bring, it is certainly a name the Packers could keep an eye on this off-season.
