The Green Bay Packers saw their season end abruptly after a fourth-quarter collapse against the Chicago Bears. Chicago scored 25 points in the final quarter to hand the Packers a loss, capping a season that unraveled amid injuries. The biggest question for Green Bay now is whether they will retain head coach Matt LaFleur, and indications suggest the team is aiming to keep him.
The Packers were heading into next season with one year left on Matt LaFleur’s contract, and all signs indicate they intend to retain him.
On The Athletic’s podcast Scoop City, NFL insiders Dianna Russini and James Palmer reported that the Packers and LaFleur are in serious negotiations to reach a deal, but Green Bay is not expected to overpay. LaFleur’s salary is expected to land around the league’s middle.
Are the Packers giving Matt LaFleur another shot?

“I think it’s pretty fair to say they are in deep negotiations right now trying to knock out a contract to keep him in Green Bay, which, from what I can gather as of yesterday afternoon, is all signs pointing to this getting done. In terms of value, I would expect Matt LaFleur to be closer to the middle of the pack of coaches who have just done deals,” commented the NFL analyst.
“The most recent contracts, outside the newer ones, when we’re talking extensions. Kevin O’Connell would come to my mind as a name of a number that would probably be around that. Kevin signed a pretty long deal. I would expect Matt to sign a shorter one, probably, but we’ll see how it shakes out,” Russini added.

The Packers dealt with numerous injuries this season, including Micah Parsons’ torn ACL and Jordan Love missing multiple games with a concussion. Those setbacks derailed what could have been a promising year, and bringing back LaFleur signals that the organization still believes in the team’s potential.
