Stop me if you’ve heard this one. Matt LaFleur saying in a postgame press conference that the amount of touches they got Aaron Jones is unacceptable. Matt LaFleur had eerily similar postgame comments on Aaron Jones usage following the Jets loss.
Matt LaFleur Has Eerily Similar Postgame Comments On Jones
LaFleur on Aaron Jones getting 3 carries in the first half: "That's not good enough."
— Zach Kruse (@zachkruse2) October 16, 2022
Aaron Jones had three carries in the first half. Give the Jets defensive line credit. They gave the running game fits all day but Aaron Jones having three touches for the entire first half is unacceptable. LaFleur talked about it last week but apparently it didn’t translate to this week. What is even more curious is that AJ Dillon was in for many more key plays. I love Dillon but he is not as good of a pass catching back as Jones is. Jones is so much more electric and the Packers seem to just keep him on the sidelines in key moments.
The Same Old Tired Comments
This isn’t the only comment that feels similar. LaFleur played all the hits in the postgame press conference. “We have to be better” and “It’s on me” are all great things to hear after a loss. When it happens after multiple losses the question becomes whether the coach is actually making the necessary adjustments to be better. It is starting to feel very stale to hear this out of LaFleur. If it is unacceptable that he only got three touches then next week, make an effort to get Jones touches in the first half! Actions speak louder than words. These words are great to hear but fans need to see it in action.
Matt LaFleur is not at any risk of getting fired. However, I do think that this is where we really get to see how good of a coach he is. The team is broken and needs a major overhaul. It is on LaFleur to overhaul this team especially the offense. LaFleur also might want to try some different postgame comments. The ones he has are getting stale.
