Morale was quite low among the Green Bay Packers fandom after their disappointing Week 1 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. Jordan Love’s knee injury placed plenty of pressure on Matt LaFleur’s shoulders as he tries to navigate the series without his preferred QB under the sticks.
The idea of winning against the Indianapolis Colts would have been an easier idea if LaFleur had Love in his team. However, he had to navigate unfamiliar territory by working with a young quarterback who struggled to make an impact during his short stint with the team that drafted him.
While there were nerves to settle during the preparation, LaFleur and the Packers eventually got their act together and put together a great 16-10 win to cap off their first home game of the season. The team’s response to last week’s loss has one analyst singing praises over how the Packers head coach handled the situation.
Analyst praises Matt LaFleur’s coaching acumen in leading a Love-less Green Bay Packers to victory
Yardbarker’s Michael Gallagher wrote about the biggest winners of the past week, and he cannot stop giving LaFleur his flowers for the way he handled the Packers:
No Jordan Love, no problem. The Packers started third-year QB Malik Willis against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday in a game many expected them to not be competitive in, and they came out with a 16-10 win. It may have been one of LaFleur’s better coaching performances of his career.
Green Bay ran the ball right down Indy’s throat and it limited Willis’ passing situations to play to his strengths. The Liberty alum was more than efficient, completing 12 of 14 passes for 122 yards and a touchdown while adding 41 yards rushing, and he wasn’t sacked once. LaFleur coached a near-perfect game.
The Packers’ Week 3 opponents will pose a challenge that’s similar to the Colts. However, with a driven Malik Willis and an innovative LaFleur, the Green Bay Packers can come out of the first three weeks with a 2-1 record.
