Slow start is what doomed the Green Bay Packers in their last two elimination round games and that showed up again versus the Philadelphia Eagles in the wildcard round according to coach Matt LaFleur.
The Packers were forced to scramble on their offense from the get go when they surrendered a 10 to nothing lead to their hosts in the first quarter. The second period came but still nothing came out of their offense even if they left Eagles without a point, too.
LaFleur said such performance only buried their chances deeper against a good team like the Eagles.
“It’s never easy when it ends like. Give Philly the credit, they certainly were better team. I thought our guys competed it’s just . . . . you know, when you come in to somebody else’s house, against a really good football team, you can’t start the way we did,” he told reporters post-game.
The coach also spoke in details about the one play from the kick off that led to instant seven points by the Eagles and said that it became hard to overcome for them.
Matt LaFleur thought Green Bay Packers played great defensively
The consensus on the Packers internet community is that they played well defensively against a good offensive team.
LaFleur agrees and that is what he is dwelling on in the disappointing loss.
“I thought our guys competed til the final whistle, to tell you the truth. Defensively, I thought we played winning football. It’s just offensively [against] special teams, we had too many mistakes. We can’t overcome those.
So what’s next now for the Packers? LaFleur said that they hope they can build on this loss to have a great offseason when they come back next season
