Matt Arnold and company were in person in San Diego for the Winter Meetings. This year was the first time that the Meetings were held in person since 2019. Lots of comments were made by both Arnold and manager Craig Counsell. However, upon conclusion of the Winter Meetings, Arnold revealed some of his potential plans for the remainder of the offseason.
Here is what Matt Arnold had to say about his potential plans for the Brewers following Winter Meetings.
According to Curt Hogg, Arnold indicated that he plans to remain active in the catchers market. Catcher is a position that the Brewers could use an upgrade in. Top free agent Wilson Conteras signed with the Cardinals. Christian Vasquez is the next best available free agent. Other potential options include trading for Sean Murphy or acquiring one of Danny Jansen, Alejandro Kirk, or Gabriel Moreno from the Blue Jays.
The Brewers are still hoping to improve at catcher this winter, Matt Arnold reiterated this evening, adding there’s been lots of movement in that market.
More likely to upgrade via FA (Vazquez) or trade (Murphy/Blue Jays/etc)?: “Hard to handicap.”

Arnold also indicated that he believes there is a good foundation at second and third base. Luis Urias, Brice Turang, Mike Brosseau, and Abraham Toro are all expected to see time at those positions. Given his comments, it appears unlikely that we will see the Brewers upgrade at either of those positions.
Another potential upgrade is at 2B/3B, but Brewers don’t seem as motivated there as they do with catcher.
“We like the group we have, for sure…When you feel good about your group walking in the door today, you feel like you have a solid foundation there.”
