Marquette vs. Georgetown Breakdown
This afternoon Shaka Smart’s Marquette Golden Eagles host Patrick Ewing’s struggling Georgetown Hoyas in Big East play. The Golden Eagles last touched the floor on Tuesday night when big man Olivier-Maxence Prosper dropped a career-high 29-points, 25 of which were in the second-half to propel the Golden Eagles to a come-from-behind 96-85 victory over the St. John’s Red Storm. Helping ensure Prosper’s career night didn’t go to waste were backcourt tandem Kai Jones (16 points and 6 rebounds) and Tyler Kolek (14 points and 8 assists).
Meanwhile, the Hoyas are looking to snap a six-game skid, including an 0-5 start to their Big East campaign. The Hoyas were throttled by Villanova 73-57 in their last outing at home on Wednesday night. If the Hoyas were to pull the upset, this afternoon, it’ll have to be due to their backcourt duo, Primo Spears (15.5ppg) and Brandon Murray (15.0ppg).
When it comes to predicting who comes out on top in this one…it should be relatively simple. While no game in the Big East is a guarantee, this is about as close as you’re going to get for the Golden Eagles. Marquette are nearly 19-point favorites for a reason and while it’ll be tough to cover that number from a betting perspective, a victory will do for Shaka Smart’s squad, this afternoon.
