Tyler Kolek earns AP All-America honors for his play with the Marquette Golden Eagles

The Marquette Golden Eagles are prepping for what they hope is a long 2023 NCAA Tournament run, tipping things off on Friday against No. 15 Vermont. The Golden Eagles earned a No. 2 seed, the highest seed in program history.

After a successful run in the regular season, Shaka Smart’s team captured the Big East Tournament Championship and are playing their best basketball of the season. And a big reason why is the play of guard Tyler Kolek.

On Tuesday, Tyler Kolek earned some recognition for his season being named to the Associated Press All-America Third Team. Kolek was one of five players named to the team on Tuesday joining North Carolina’s Armando Bacot, Kansas State’s Markquis Nowell and Keyontae Johnson, and Iowa’s Kris Murray.

The sophomore averaged 13.3 points, 4.2 rebounds and 7.7 assists per game for the Golden Eagles, establishing himself as one of the best guards in the country. Kolek shot 48.3 percent from the field and 39.4 percent from the three-point line, both career highs.

Kolek originally enrolled at George Mason before transferring to Marquette in March of 2021. He does have experience playing in the NCAA Tournament as Marquette fell to North Carolina. Kolek finished the game with just three points.
