The Marquette Golden Eagles moved up to #15 in the college basketball rankings on Monday ahead of the Central Michigan Chippewas. Over the last few seasons, one of the things that Marquette has relied on to be successful is deflections on the defensive end of the floor.
Marquette had 66 deflections against Central Michigan on Monday night. The Golden Eagles escaped with a 70-62 win over the Chippewas. Marquette improved to 3-0 on the season and Central Michigan dropped to 1-2.
Marquette Golden Eagles Have Four Players Score In Double Figures Against the Central Michigan Chippewas
Stevie Mitchell led the way for Shaka Smart’s squad with 17 points, one rebound, and two assists. This was the first time this season that Mitchell has scored in double figures. Kam Jones and Chase Ross each scored 12 points for the Marquette Golden Eagles. They both have scored in double figures for the first three games of the 2024-2025 college basketball season.
Ben Gold also scored 10 points for Marquette against the Central Michigan Chippewas. Gold will need to stay efficient on the offensive end of the floor. The Golden Eagles will next play against the Maryland Terrapins on the road on Friday, November 15.
Three Players Scored In Double Figures For Central Michigan
The Chippewas were outscored by 15 points in the first half, but they outscored the Golden Eagles by seven points in the second half. Tony Barbee is the head coach of this basketball team. Kyler Vanderjagt led Central Michigan with 19 points in the game.
Ugnius Jarusevicius recorded a double-double for the Central Michigan Chippewas with 11 points and 14 rebounds. Jakobi Heady also scored 11 points, grabbed six rebounds, and recorded three assists. They played hard in the game but came up short. The next game for them will be against the George Mason Patriots on Wednesday night.
