The good times keep rolling for the Marquette Golden Eagles, who improved to 7-0 overall in the 2024-25 college basketball season after a masterful 94-59 win over the Stonehill Skyhawks.
And the Golden Eagles certainly did it in style, as they donned throwback uniforms in the Stonehill game. That surely brought back lots of memories for Marquette basketball fans, but the Golden Eagles are not done yet, based on what head coach Shaka Smart said following the win over Stonehill.
“We got one more that we’ll be unveiling later this year,” Smart said as though teasing Golden Eagles fans of yet another surprise shortly (h/t Jack Albright).
As for the game itself, Marquette dominated Stonehill from start to finish, which wasn’t much of a surprise given the fact that the Skyhawks are a sub-300 team on KenPom. Conversely, the Golden Eagles are a top-10 KenPom squad. They are also ranked 10th overall by the Associated Press.
Marquette Golden Eagles dominate Stonehill for another convincing victory
Senior forward David Joplin led Marquette with 27 points on a superb 10-for-12 shooting from the field while also going 4-for-5 from behind the arc. Another senior, Kam Jones, chipped in 14 points while freshman forward Damarius Owens came off the bench and contributed 14 points for the Golden Eagles, who shot 60.7 percent overall from the floor and hit 10 of their 21 attempts from the 3-point region.
Expect the Golden Eagles to score another win this coming Saturday when they host a lightweight in the form of the Western Carolina Catamounts at Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee.
