The Marquette Golden Eagles will have high expectations for the upcoming 2023-2024 college basketball season. Marquette is going to be one of the top teams in college basketball this season. The Golden Eagles have not been to the Final Four since 2003, and they haven’t won a National Title since the 1970s.
This will be a new territory for the basketball program this season after going 17-3 in conference play in the Big East last year and 29-7 overall before losing to the Michigan State Spartans in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Big East Player of the Year Tyler Kolek expects greatness this season for the Marquette Golden Eagles.

He told John Fanta last week, who is a college basketball broadcaster and reporter on FOX:
“We want a national championship. The fact is, we beat the team that did it twice last year. I applaud them (UCONN) for winning and representing our league, but we believe we’re right there.”
This Marquette Golden Eagles team is going to be very deep this season under head coach Shaka Smart. It will be interesting to see how they do with high expectations. Junior guard Stevie Mitchell also spoke with Fanta last week and told him:
“We’re out to win a national championship this year. Is that the goal of a lot of teams? Yes, and we have know that. But we believe with who we have, if we do the things we’re supposed to do, that it can be reality for us.”
Marquette Golden Eagles Were Projected To be One of the Worst Teams in the Big East Conference a Season Ago

Before last season began, they were projected to finish ninth in the Big East Conference. They won the regular season title and the Big East Tournament last season. The Marquette Golden Eagles know that rankings mean nothing and that they are going to earn it once again this season in a year where expectations are through the roof.

Head coach Shaka Smart has been to a Final Four before back in 2011 with the VCU Rams as an 11th seed, and he is looking to make the Final Four this season with this Marquette Golden Eagles squad. They will be one of the deepest teams in college basketball this season. However, the Big East Conference will be tough from the get-go, and their first game this season will be on November 6 against the Northern Illinois Huskies at the Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
