The Marquette Golden Eagles were ranked #21 in the country entering the game on Tuesday night against the Providence Friars. Marquette has struggled during February and they needed someone else to step up.
Ben Gold has been struggling this season and he scored 17 points, grabbed six rebounds, and recorded one assist in an 82-52 win for Marquette over Providence. With the win for Marquette, they improved to 21-7 overall and 12-5 in Big East Conference play this season. As for the Providence Friars, they dropped to 12-16 overall and 6-11 in conference play for the 2024-2025 season.

It seemed like it was a major surprise when Gold had a big game against the Providence Friars on Tuesday night. This was not on many people’s bingo card. Many Marquette fans were calling for him to be benched. However, there was a play late in the second half that had him going from coast to coast. Hopefully, this will be the game that gets Gold going heading into March. The Golden Eagles are going to need him to play well if they are going to make a deep run in the NCAA Tournament this season.

To go along with Gold’s big game for Marquette, Kam Jones also scored 17 points. He has been the most consistent player for this team this season. Jones also grabbed two rebounds and recorded seven assists.
Stevie Mitchell scored 14 points as well for the Golden Eagles. He also grabbed four rebounds and recorded four assists. The Golden Eagles will look to have another good performance when they face the Georgetown Hoyas on Saturday, March 1. It’s a game they will need to win if they want to get a reasonable seed in the NCAA Tournament.
