The No. 10 Marquette basketball rebounded from a recent loss to the Xavier Musketeers, as the Golden Eagles demolished the struggling Seton Hall Pirates on Tuesday night at Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.
But even before the game started and Marquette beat Seton Hall, 76-59, it appeared as though the Pirates had already lost – at least in terms of fan turnout inside the arena. A photo showing rows and rows of empty seats just minutes before the game appeared to give a clue about the poor state of Pirates basketball in the 2024-25 season.

Fans can’t help but react to the images shared by Adam Zagoria.
“Sad. That’s the problem with off campus home games. Even the students don’t bother showing up”
“Friends, family and the reporters. As well as it should be for a borderline low level D1 team.”
“Who can blame them. Bad product”
“That is disappointing”
“Rock bottom for us pirates…”
“lmao it appears that some Extremely Sad Seton Hall Fans have brought a “NCAA END NIL” sign to the game tonight”
“NIL killed my school :(”
Marquette basketball vs. Seton Hall failed to draw big crowd
According to ESPN, the game was attended by 8,152 spectators, way fewer than Prudential Center’s capacity, which is over 18,000 for basketball games.
It’s hard to blame fans for losing interest in watching the Pirates live, as Seton Hall is just 6-13 overall and 1-7 in conference play. Seton Hall is ranked 170th by KenPom. Seton Hall won 25 games last season but the Pirates but the school won’t even get there even if it never loses the rest of the regular season.
As for Marquette basketball, the Golden Eagles can expect better crowd volume when they return home to play the Villanova Wildcats on Friday.
