Marquette basketball is surging right now. Coach Shaka Smart has the team playing great basketball right now. After knocking off UConn last week, the Golden Eagles defeated Providence and Seton Hall this week. Their lone loss was to a top-10 Xavier team on the road and it was a narrow one. The latest AP poll has Marquette ranked at no. 16.

Marquette Basketball Climbs To No. 16 In AP Poll
The Golden Eagles are up four spots from last week. Despite going 2-1, the team is playing so well that the AP awarded them a higher spot. They are ahead of fellow Big East contenders UConn and Providence but three spots behind Xavier. If Smart can keep the team playing at this high level, they should continue to climb in the AP poll.
Big East Standings
At this point, it is more important to look at where they stand in the Big East. The Golden Eagles are second behind Xavier though they are just a half-game back. Those two teams and Providence have distanced themselves from the rest of the Big East with the middle teams all having three or more losses. Marquette has a chance for a big week as they play all currently unranked teams with two out of the three being at home.
Marquette is playing good basketball right now. There is still a lot of season to go but it is good to see this team steadily improve. Hopefully, the team will continue to improve and be playing their best ball come March.
