Mark Murphy Makes Big Statement
Packers President Mark Murphy said in an interview Thursday, “It’s time to make changes.” Murphy wants other NFL owners to step up in the fight against societal issues. The Packers were one of the NFL teams to cancel practice because of social injustice issues. Murphy talked about how the events of the past few months, including the events in Kenosha last week, “had an impact on our entire organization.”
What Will the Packers and Murphy Do?
- The Packers are creating a $250,000 grant for social justice causes.
- The Packers want to help all police officers get body cams.
- Packers players will be meeting with Wisconsin legislators.
- The team’s Johnsonville Tailgate Village near Lambeau Field will become a polling station for November’s election.
- Murphy called on all 32 NFL owner to help make a difference.
- Murphy also called on sponsors, local businesses, and local leaders to help the Packers drive change.
Packers Coach and Player Reactions
Head Coach Matt Lafleur said “It’s amazing that this is still happening.” Lafleur also stated that they “wanted to get our guys perspective and try to float around some ideas on how we can make a difference and use our platform to create change.”
Packers QB Aaron Rodgers said, “I think they were a lot of personal things said,” when asked about how the team meeting went on Thursday about these issues.
Many Packers players took to Twitter expressing their feelings. Saying things such as: “We need change,” “When will this end,” and “Black Lives Matter.”
