Questions surrounding the Packers’ quarterback situation and the future of Aaron Rodgers hasn’t been as controversial as last year. After Rodgers won his second straight NFL MVP Award, the Packers signed Rodgers to a three-year extension that drastically lowered his cap hit for 2022 and 2023. This immediately made Jordan Love the center of trade conversations:
Today Legendary Packer fan and You-tuber Tom Grossi interviewed Mark Murphy. One of the talking points was the future of Jordan Love and the quarterback position in Green Bay:
Packers CEO Mark Murphy on Jordan Love:
"We think he can be a good player, but we haven't seen enough. So I think this preseason will be good for him"
As of right now, it doesn't seem like Jordan Love is going anywhere.

Grossi went on to say:
I asked Mark Murphy about keeping Jordan Love in case Rodgers retires at some point in the next few seasons.
His response:
"Aaron is still playing at a high level & he said he wants to keep playing, but I think it's probably a year by year thing now" https://t.co/CG701foZOF

What does this mean going forward?
Jordan Love has two years left on his rookie deal. Next off-season Green Bay needs to make the decision if they want to use the fifth year option on him. After a first round pick’s third full season under his rookie contract, their team had the option to pick up or decline a player’s fifth-year option. The fifth-year options are also fully guaranteed once picked up, making this decision all the more important for NFL front offices.
However the amount for Jordan Love’s 5th year option may be upwards of $20 million dollars. It Is unlikely Green Bay picks up this option while they keep another QB (Rodgers) under contract. Finding a trade suitor would be huge for Green Bay, especially if they can get back what they spent on him (a first round pick). There is no telling how long Rodgers will play, but coming off back to back MVP seasons and seeing Brady play until his mid 40s… One would think Rodgers will want to stick around for a while.
