In a recent free agent article, MLB Insider and Executive Reporter Mark Feinsand matched one free agent to each team. He clearly states that he is not predicting where players will land. Rather, it is an exercise to see which free agents may match a team’s needs. In his article, Adam Frazier was the player he chose to land with the Brewers.
Below is Feinsand’s reasoning for his selection.
Utility man Jace Peterson is a free agent, so the Brewers might be in the market for a replacement. Frazier has struggled since being named to his first All-Star team in 2021, making him a solid buy-low candidate. Milwaukee is familiar with Frazier’s work from his days in Pittsburgh, so perhaps the versatile lefty bat could be an asset for the Brewers.
Would Adam Frazier be a good target for the Brewers?
Feinsand’s reasoning behind his selection is due to the Brewers needing a utility infielder. He is accurate in the fact that Jace Peterson is a free agent. However, it is highly anticipated that prospect Brice Turang will fill Peterson’s old role. This will allow the Brewers to ease Turang in against major league competition.
All of that could change if the Brewers elect to trade Kolten Wong this offseason. In that occurs, Turang would likely see an increase in playing time and there perhaps could be a need to sign a utility infielder such as Frazier. The only other versatile infielders currently on the 40-man roster, outside of Turang, are Mike Brosseau and Luis Urias.
If the Brewers were to look into signing Frazier, he would be a great buy low candidate. He is coming off his worst offensive season of his seven year career. The Brewers do have a history of giving veterans a chance, but right now there is not an obvious fit on the team for Frazier.
