Giannis Antetokounmpo’s uncertain future in Milwaukee continues to draw attention, and one NBA insider believes the Atlanta Hawks would treat one asset as untouchable in any potential deal, with Trae Young not among them.

Hawks forward Jalen Johnson has surfaced in speculation after his agent, Rich Paul, floated his name in discussions tied to a possible move for the Bucks star. With several teams reportedly backing away from the Giannis sweepstakes, the question now is whether Atlanta could position itself as a serious contender if Milwaukee opens the door to trade talks.

Paul spoke candidly about the idea of Johnson and the Hawks being involved in a potential deal for Antetokounmpo, raising the topic on his new Game Over podcast with Max Kellerman.

“If I’m the Bucks … I’m calling Atlanta. I want Jalen Johnson. He’s from Milwaukee,” said the Klutch Sports CEO.

Johnson has played his way into untouchable territory this season despite returning from a season ending injury, to the point that league insiders view him as just as off limits as the unprotected 2026 first round pick Atlanta surrendered to draft Derik Queen, as reported by Marc Stein.

The big man has vaulted into the All Star conversation and sits near the top of the Most Improved Player race, putting together a dominant all around season while posting career best averages of 23.2 points, 10.5 rebounds and 8.0 assists per game.

Even with Trae Young sidelined by a right knee MCL sprain, Johnson has carried Atlanta to a solid 15-12 start. Given his impact and age, the Hawks have little incentive to include him in trade talks, viewing the 23 year old as a foundational piece who can help steer the franchise toward long term contention.

Giannis Antetokounmpo still anchors the franchise for the time being, though that stability would vanish if he decides to push for a move.
