He has been able to attract many three and four-star recruits to a non-power 5 conference school. Now he has the advantage of recruiting for a historic program. Luke Fickell Talks Recruiting
Fickell knows the importance of keeping homegrown talent in the state. “Within the 300-mile radius, that will be the core on what it is that we do,” Fickell said when asked about his recruiting plan. All of the big-name programs recruit their state well. An indication that a coach is not recruiting well is a bunch of in-state players going elsewhere. Fickell understands that Wisconsin, and even northern Illinois, has a great talent pool and it starts there. Getting recruits from other states is awesome but the foundation has to be within that 300-mile radius.
Get Ready For Talent To Come To Wisconsin
Make no mistake, more talent is going to come to Wisconsin because of Luke Fickell. It may not be an immediate surge of recruits (though don’t count that out) but over time Wisconsin will see more talent come to the program. Wisconsin is one of the premiere Big Ten destinations. It has a long history of fun traditions and cultivating NFL talent. Fickell simply looks to build on that.
Luke Fickell will need to hit the ground running on recruiting. It is the time of the transfer portal and players de-committing due to coaching changes across college football. It will be interesting to see what recruits Fickell can sway to Wisconsin.
