Lukas Van Ness was drafted by the Green Bay Packers last night. GM Brian Gutekunst stayed true to his strategy of drafting defense and took the edge prospect out of Iowa. Shortly after the pick, the team revealed what number Lukas Van Ness will be wearing for the Packers.

Lukas Van Ness Will Wear No. 90 For The Green Bay Packers
Jarran Reed left for Seattle in free agency and Van Ness will take his number. The number 90 has seen some quality defensive linemen for the Packers. Most notably, B.J. Raji wore the number during his time with the team and during the Super Bowl run in 2010. Ezra Johnson and Vonnie Holliday are other notable Packers to wear the number. All three of these players combined for a lot of sacks in their careers and Van Ness is hoping to follow in their footsteps.

It’s A Good Pick
I get it Packers fans. Everyone was hoping they would take a first-round wide receiver. While I too would have loved that pick, it doesn’t take away from the fact that Van Ness is a quality player. The Packers needed help on the defensive line and got one of the top prospects. Van Ness opposite Rashan Gary has the potential to be a pass rush duo that haunts opposing quarterbacks for years to come. Also, with the two second-round picks, there is plenty of time to get some pass-catchers. If those players produce, no one will care where they were drafted.
Lukas Van Ness is a good pick for the Green Bay Packers. I for one am excited to see him wear the number 90 once the season starts in September.
