A night after LOVB Madison lost in four sets to Omaha, they dropped a five set match to Atlanta. Inability to finish games had been their biggest downfall to date, but on Saturday night bad serve-receive resulted in significant lineup changes.
LOVB Madison lost in five sets to Atlanta
Playing at a neutral site in Omaha, LOVB Madison lost to Atlanta 21-25, 25-18, 17-25, 25-20, 10-15. This game marked Madison’s fourth match in nine days while Atlanta was playing their first in 10. In this game, the only rust Atlanta showed as at the serving line as they committed 16 errors, but one major issue was Madison’s ability to provide setter Lauren Carlini with in system passes.
Bad serve-receive resulted in significant lineup changes
From the fourth set on, Madison rolled with Claire Chaussee and Temi Thomas-Ailara on the bench, Sarah Franklin at right-side, and Jennifer Janiska plus Daly Santana at outside hitters. Chaussee did not record a single in system pass while committing one error and Franklin had four errors while finishing with an in system pass percentage of just 15.4. Moving Franklin to right side removed her from serve-receive.
LOVB Madison also changed liberos mid-game
Entering the game, Simin Wang had been Madison’s libero for every game. She was removed mid-game and replaced by Milica Medved. Wang had been under the weather beforehand, but did commit three errors in reception. Madved came in, did not commit an error, and delivered 43.8% of passes in system on 16 attempts.
After dropping to 1-4 on the season it will be interesting to see who Madison starts on Wednesday against Houston when they take the floor next.
