Last NFL offseason, the Green Bay Packers released running back Aaron Jones on the same day they signed Josh Jacobs to a contract. Many Packers fans thought that Jones was going to be on the team when they signed Jacobs, but Green Bay decided to release him.
When Aaron Jones was released, he decided to sign a one-year deal with the Minnesota Vikings in the offseason. Minnesota had a 14-3 record this season and Green Bay had a 11-6 record.
Former Green Bay Packers Running Back Aaron Jones Listed As Top 50 Free Agent According To Bleacher Report Scouting Department
Former Packers running back Aaron Jones is listed as the #39th-ranked free agent by the Bleacher Report Scouting Department. They did not list where Jones could potentially land for the 2025 NFL season, but there is no doubt that he could be a fit elsewhere next year if Minnesota does not bring him back. The Bleacher Report Scouting Department said:
“Aaron Jones is 30 years old and has battled knee and hamstring issues over the last two years. However, he’s still likely to be the top running back in free agency this offseason.
Jones has been just as valuable as a dual-threat back with Minnesota as he was with the Green Bay Packers. With Chuba Hubbard and James Conner both receiving late-season extensions, Nick Chubb (broken foot) injured again and Najee Harris remaining inconsistent, Jones should be the top target for any playoff-caliber team.”
Jones during the regular season rushed for 1,138 yards on 255 carries and five touchdowns, along with averaging 4.5 yards per carry. He also caught 51 passes for 408 yards receiving and two touchdowns, along with averaging 8.0 yards per reception.
Packers Could Bring Him Back As RB2 Next Season
The running back plans for the Packers in 2024 have not gone as planned even though Josh Jacobs is one of the best running backs in the league. Green Bay likes to use a running back-by-committee system and they have not been healthy enough to use that plan this season.
A.J. Dillon or Marshan Lloyd was supposed to fill in that role, but both players missed most of the season due to injuries. There could be a chance that the Packers decide to bring the 30-year-old running back for next season. Aaron Jones going back to Green Bay next year would be something that this fanbase would love.
