The Green Bay Packers will likely lose starting left tackle Rasheed Walker in free agency. While the fourth-year Penn State alum is a solid player, his positional value means he is in for a bloated pay raise this offseason. It’s hard to imagine the Packers would be eager to shell out his four-year, $81 million projected market value, per Spotrac.
His departure, however, would leave a massive hole on an already unstable offensive line. In ranking the roster’s top 10 positions to address this offseason, The Athletic’s Matt Schneidman named the question at left tackle Green Bay’s No. 1 concern.
Morgan next man up if Walker departs as free agent
To clarify, that doesn’t mean the Packers have to go out and acquire some other free agent. That didn’t work so well last year with the expensive addition of Aaron Banks at guard.
Schneidman describes his position-ranking process as follows: “These could be positions where the Packers must improve, where there’s uncertainty entering next season or both. And do the Packers add from outside the building at some of these spots or rely on improvements from within?”
At left tackle, Schneidman’s top-ranked need, that could simply mean leaning into Jordan Morgan in Walker’s place. Morgan has moved around on Green Bay’s o-line since the Packers drafted him 25th overall two years ago. In 2025, he split his time on the right side of the line at both guard and tackle. Asking him to replace Walker would thus require Morgan to migrate to the opposite side.

Overall last season, Morgan logged 748 snaps and earned a PFF grade of 59, good for 48th/81 among guards. He graded out a bit better in pass protection (64.3, 31st/81) than in run blocking (57.8, 49th).
Walker, meanwhile, earned a 64.6 overall rating at tackle, only 52nd/89.
Writes Schneidman, “The 2024 first-round pick impressed at left tackle while Walker nursed an injury last preseason, but we don’t know for certain whether he’d hold up there as a full-time starter since he played right guard (not well) and right tackle (better) this past season.”
If the Packers don’t seek external help via a cheaper veteran signing in free agency – and what kind of quality could they really expect for cheap – Morgan should expect to have a lot on his plate next season as Walker’s designated substitute.
